Nuestro Futuro joined with Maui School Garden Network and the Haiku Elementary School Foundation to create a food arbor at Haiku Elementary School. In the warm Maui sunshine almost 100 parents, students and volunteers dug huge holes, hauled water and mulch and trees. One citrus tree was planted for each grade at the school along with papaya, bananas, a living wind screen and smaller border plants. The goals of the program are to teach good eating habits, foster a connection to nature and source clean produce right on the school campus.
